Candid Family Photography Session in Ottawa | The Roisin Family At Home

This is an oldie but a goodie :)

I drove to Ottawa in early May of 2019 so that I could meet this beautiful family and take some candid photographs of them doing their thing.

They have three daughters, and we had already settled on a one-hour session in their home, during which time we would be able to take some photos both inside and outside.

The girls were so sweet. They were curious about the camera, but really quickly warmed up to me (as kids naturally do! because candid photography is a lot of fun)

We had a relatively short time together, and yet we captured so many different small moments!

There were snuggly moments, and funny moments…

I also took a couple of (completely candid) portraits of the girls.

Finally, I tried to make sure that some of the photographs would have all five of the family members - mom and dad included - in the frame.

The rest was completely up to the whims of the girls.

They spent some time playing in the sandbox in the back yard. I loved this series of photographs, because it shows the whole family enjoying this “ordinary” moment in their back yard. It shows you that you don’t have to do something out of the ordinary to enjoy each other.

And in fact, I bet that the girls are now much older - probably their eldest daughter no longer plays in that sandbox now…

And in another few years, maybe ten or more…she’ll revisit these photographs, smiling at herself and her sister, with their tiny rubber boots, sitting in the sandbox cutely, enjoying the spring Ontario sun.

My childhood memories are filled with sunny moments, playing in the mud or sand.

I hope this memory will be a similarly cherished one for the Roisin girls.
