Gananoque Egg Toss | Totally Candid Family Photography

Here we bring you another installment of the ‘Year in the Life’ series, with the Wright Straub family.

As you might recall if you’ve been following this blog, the year was 2017. We had predetermined that we would meet once a month with this family to photograph their activities.

And each month was like a fun game, figuring out what activity to photograph!

Jacklyn contacted me early that week and was like, “hey, i know it’s short notice, but we’re heading to Gananoque on Friday to do an egg toss and have some pizza”, and I was like, YES!

We met up at the Purple House Cafe, which was already bustling with folks preparing delicious looking pizzas to throw into the outdoor pizza oven.

Before the egg-toss challenge, everyone milled around and chatted; the boys played out in the alley out back. Tom had brought a book with him, and he could hardly put it down. He read that book even while walking!

His younger brother ran circles around him, and jumped off the crate where Tom was perched, blissfully unaware, engrossed in the pages.

Once the egg toss started, I had lots of fun trying to catch the eggs flying in mid-air, and also people’s faces - their expressions both when they caught an egg, but also when they missed!

Both are equally funny. It was a great event! (except I did feel bad for just how many eggs we wasted… the plus side was that the seagulls had a little feast after the people were scattered)

After the egg toss, there was delicious cake!

I also caught a few moments of Jacklyn grooming/cleaning her boys’ faces. It’s a very cute and tender moment when a mother cleans her children’s faces: we do it ALL the time. It’s just part of being a mom! So of course it needs to be captured. Later, when those boys are older, they’ll appreciate seeing how caring mom was all the time. Even in the moments they didn’t want to be cleaned! haha.

I hope this fun session demonstrates one thing: that no matter WHAT you love doing, it can create vibrant and colourful photographs, which will later help your memories.

Often, if we don’t have a photograph or other visual aid, it’s hard for us to keep preserving that memory.

Photographs are super helpful. They help you fill in all the little details you had forgotten.

And this session was so much fun! The crowd hardly noticed I was even there. Win-win!
