A Year in the Life: Watch This Family Grow Before Your Eyes 🥳

A Year in the Life is a big commitment. It’s honestly not for everyone.

But there are families out there who are going through big changes - kids growing up and reaching milestones - families who are enamoured with the idea of creating memories & keepsakes…

That’s who the YITL is for. ❤️

First birthdays - they only happen once.

by Liz Cooper, blogger extraordinaire

They only come once, 1st birthdays. I suppose you could say that about every birthday, each milestone marks a moment in life. A chapter closed, another one opened. Life moves forward at an alarming, joyous rate.

But the 1st birthday.

That’s a big deal.

People stop stating your age in months. 12 of those makes a year and now you’re a whole string of 12. And you’ll never just be one again. You’re no longer a baby. You’re a toddler, soon to be a “kid.”

Time flies and these moments are, well, to be unoriginal, priceless. Even if it’s just you, your parents, and maybe a grandma or two, 1st birthdays should be enjoyed, relished, perhaps even captured on camera. If you’ve got the cake right there. Smash it. You’ve got some sweet treats? Eat ‘em. You’ve got some family there, celebrating with you? Squeeze ‘em.

These are the days of your life, and we’re so glad we got to share a little bit with you and your family.

Happy Birthday, Soren.

Note from Viara (the photographer) about how this candid family photo session happened:

Sandee, Soren’s mum, had received a gift certificate for a photo-session with me ages ago. (My gift certificates don’t expire unless I do :P).

We had been trying to make this photoshoot happen from before Soren’s birth, believe it or not. Sandee was really into candid, unposed photographs, and so we brainstormed about what activities we could do to capture their family life. But life got in the way… and then his first birthday was coming up.

It seemed a PERFECT occasion. We went to the park, had home-made (angel-food cake + strawberries, yum!), spent time with grandma even… Soren loved being photographed, because let’s face it - he didn’t have to do much. Just eat and be merry and hang out.

Mini sessions like this one can happen any time of year (not just during the holidays!) and can capture any ordinary or extraordinary magic your family loves to do.
