Baby Shower Photography | Amrita and Manny Celebrate With Friends and Family at the Delta Hotel

Amrita and Manny are expecting a baby. They threw a baby shower at the Delta Hotel, invited their closest friends and family, and had some games and activities planned.

In fact, they worked with Heather of Bowtied with Love (my friend and event planner extraordinaire), so I was already excited for this.

I was asked to photograph the event, focusing mostly on candid moments, with a few group and family photos here and there, particularly as folks were arriving.

And that’s exactly what I did!

I wanted to capture a few details first, to showcase the lovely setting.

There were balloons set up everywhere, and delicious multi-tiered cake.

It helped me to arrive a little bit early, so that I can get these shots of the setting, before all the guests started to arrive.

As friends and family started to pour in and say their hellos, I wanted to capture a few candid moments. Having candid photographs of family mingling and smiling is a really wonderful way to remember them just as they were, without any posing.

We did of course take time, as Amrita had asked me, to do a few group shots. We did most of these in front of the balloon arch. The lighting there wasn’t the greatest (it’s a bit of a mix between fluorescent light, incandescent light, and daylight from the big windows.) But my choices were to either be a diva and turn the lights off, using my own lights to light these formal photos, or to just go with the flow. I chose the second, so as to not inconvenience everyone. The photos still turned out quite nice 😊

Sometimes when I take candid photographs, I like to edit them in black and white, because I think it can show the emotion of the photograph a little better. You know me, I love colour more than your average person, but sometimes at family events, a little black and white edit is just magic. (especially for candid photos!)

There were some yummy foods, and everyone had a helping.

And since you know I have a weakness for taking photos of adorable little ones, I also snapped lots and lots of those! Here are just a few examples:

Now, this baby shower was super fun, and it was partially because of the really hilarious baby games that Heather had prepared.

One of these games had guests sniffing “dirty” diapers, trying to guess what was in the diaper! Sounds gross? But actually, the contents of the diapers was just chocolate.

Lots of different types of chocolate. Some with almond chunks, some without…

If you didn’t know ahead of time, though, these “dirty” diaper games looked quite shocking because the chocolate looked very much like real baby 💩

Anyway, those were hilarious to photograph.

After this game with the chocolate in the diapers, there were a few more games.

Firstly, Amrita and Manny played a version of the ‘shoe’ game, but with ribbons.

It’s hard to explain, but fun to play. In essence, it tries to see how well you know your partner, but it is also hilarious.

For one of the games, players had to cut pieces of ribbon to guess how big Amrita’s belly is. The player with the closest length of ribbon won.

In another game, players had to feed their partner while blindfolded. And the food? It was baby food! Funny and messy, indeed.

Another blindfold game consisted of having to scoop up cotton balls into a bowl, all while blindfolded. That was a tricky one, and we did spot a wee bit of cheating!

Then, there was a hilarious team game, which consisted of pairs of players, trying to use toilet paper to create a diaper for their partner. The results speak for themselves:

There was a moment in which the parents wanted to pop a ‘gender-reveal’ balloon. There was a bit of a mix-up, though, so instead of the balloon turning pink (as they’re having a girl), the balloon turned blue. Oops!

some of the guests were savvy enough to know that this was a mistake - the balloon was meant to turn pink for girl. (but really, who says pink is for girls? My son’s favourite colour has always been pink)

And pretty soon, it was time to cut the cake. funny how quickly time can pass when you’re having so much fun. Three hours nearly flew by!

This was a really fun event, and I’m happy to have been asked to photograph it.

Amrita and I did the photo reveal just yesterday. She’s only a week away from baby being born, and is feeling good and happy and excited.

I wish this family endless joy with their little one!
