Photographing these derby girls was as awesome as it sounds. Energy, colour, strength, and an alley full of graffiti. What's not to love?

In all seriousness, this kind of photoshoot is a photographer's dream. Or at least it is mine. Why? Because even though the subjects will ask you for guidance, they bring so much natural charisma, such inherent comfort with themselves and each other, that it's impossible for it not to come through the lens.  

The challenge then becomes to take the shot quickly, to recognize the moment, and to play up each person's strength or quirk while keeping the theme consistent. A cinematic filter ties is all up nicely in this case.
